Did you know that foreign-trade zone (FTZ) exports can be identified on all zone filings in AES? According to NAFTZ, the US Census Bureau confirmed that operators can file their FTZ identifier when reporting exports using the Automated Export System (AES) In bond code of 70 (Merchandise NOT shipped in bond).

This reporting allows non-bonded exports from the zone to be captured by Census as an FTZ export. It is suggested that the FTZ identifier be used when shipments have had duty paid before export as well as when “indirect” exports leave an FTZ and enter US commerce before being exported.

This reporting allows operators to account for FTZ exports through AES more efficiently, and will increase the visibility of the importance of the FTZ program in growing US exports.
